What's in the Box?

I think it’s safe to say, we are officially “OC” residents.  We have a library card (and have visited 3 times already!), spent an entire morning in line at the DMV in an attempt to get a new driver’s license (lost mine during our travels this summer) and Harper is enrolled in preschool.  Phew…it’s been quite a week, but everything is starting to fall into place.

Here is my little muffin on her first day at her new school… (in her chucks of course!)

And all the while, we have been enjoying our delicious and nutritious treats from our new CSA.  I have also been enjoying perusing over your CSA eats from last week.  We had 10 link ups and apparently it was all about the green.  Green beans, pesto, and green tomato bacon jam.  The perfect veggie color :)

As for me, this is what I will be working with this week…

What's in the Box? #80And before we go any further, I have to mention the 3 garlic cloves that I forgot to place in the box before the picture.  Didn’t realize it until all the produce was put away…darn.

I am most excited about the figs!  I have never received figs in my box before, nor have I ever even tried one.  Not sure why, I have just never come across them before.  Looking forward to whipping up a savory dish with them that the whole family will enjoy.  Which means the garlic will come in handy for that recipe as well.  And Freddie and Harper can’t wait for a side of my famous mashed potatoes.

Next, 3 cheers for Thai basil!  It has been a while since I have gotten some in my box and I am looking forward to cooking with it.  It has such a lovely aroma and the flavor bursts in your mouth.

The taco salad last week was a big hit so I plan on duplicating that again.  I will chop up some of the tomatoes to throw on top in addition to some of those sweet peppers.

I am happy to see another bundle of grapes.  Our last batch went pretty quickly so I am hoping to experiment some more with recipes this week.

For the carrots, I have a great chicken recipe that calls for roasted carrots.  It’s a recipe I have been dying to share with you, so hopefully this will stand as a reminder for me to post it ASAP.

Speaking of roasting…love me some roasted cauliflower.  I roasted some last week for Harper to throw in with her broccoli and she LOVED it!

    Your box looks great. How do you find these CSAs in your new cities so quickly? Love your recipe links, too. I’m dying to try those red potatoes and that green tomato bacon jam.

      Localharvest.org is a great resource. It helps you find CSAs, farmers markets and so much more! You just put in your zip and it does the work for you :)

      I am also slightly obsessed with my produce and it is always a requirement for me to have a weekly box…

    I’m so glad you take photos of your box each week–I need to do that with next week’s box for the Homegrown.org CSA Cookoff and I’m so glad I’ve got you style to emulate. I hope I get good light!
    I’m glad you’re getting settled–and it’s funny, the library was the first stop I think the afternoon that the kids arrived here (my spouse and I received our household goods and set up the house while the kids were over at Grandma’s house). I especially love it here since the kids can walk to/from the library and missed due dates are NEVER Mom’s fault!
    I hate to tease you with yet another savory recipe involving grapes, but, I will anyway.
    Roasted Shrimp and Potato Salad with Grapes and Celery. I combined two recipes I’d seen at the deli to make a single main dish meal.
    I’m also sharing a gluten- and dairy free Thai-inspired Creamy Chicken Noodle soup, and a Chopped Vegetable Pizza concept recipe.

  5. Oh my gosh, this cannot be happening again. I think we have a psychic connection or something, ‘cos I just posted about figs! And thank goodness I took a look inside your box and saw the Thai Basil. Awhile ago, I posted about my harvest of Thai basil and promised my readers recipes for the dinner I made with them, and have totally forgotten about it! :-)
    Harper looks so cute! I work in an elementary school. It’s always special to see the little ones come in the first day/week of school!

    I wish we got figs…I got some grapes this week, which was exciting.

    Love the first day of school pics! My niece (who is about the same age as Harper) has taken to popping her hip in pictures. Every single first day of school picture–hip popped, hand on hip. The poses that kids come up with!

    I’m finally back to blogging after moving and the start of the school year, so I all I shared was what was in my CSA pick up, but I’m hoping next week I’ll have a recipe as well!

    I love roasting cauliflower. I have all these other ideas, but they never happen because we enjoy it roasted too much. Looks like a great box!
