Hungry Globetrotter

Hungry GlobetrotterWith all the moving I have done in my lifetime, one would think I like to travel.  But the truth is, I am a homebody.  I wish I had the adventurous spirit to get up and go but it’s hard for me to even pack a suitcase, let alone live out of one.  However, as a lover of food from all over the globe, I realize how much I am missing out by staying close to home (on more than just the cuisine, I am sure…).  Which is exactly why my current subscription box obsession is Hungry Globetrotter.  Whether you are an avid jet setter or prefer to enjoy thrilling escapades from the comfort of your own home, Hungry Globetrotter is your passport to worldly edibles.

Imagine getting the chance to visit an exotic country once a month through a gourmet food box sent straight to your home.  And not only is it packed with unique ingredients, it is also accompanied by recipes that will transport you to a land far away.  Take a quick peek at what Hungry Globetrotter is all about…

For the month of March Hungry Globetrotter sent their subscribers on a trip to Tuscany.  With boxes full of traditional Italian flavors I was in heaven with Mushroom and Herb Farro, Italian Seasoning Salt, Tuscan Peasant Soup and Rosemary Focaccia.

Hungry GlobetrotterBut the adventure didn’t stop there.  Hungry Globetrotter also equipped me with all the recipes I needed for a full Tuscan Sun Dinner, complete with wine pairing suggestions.  And finally, to help me really feel like I was in the heart of Italy, they provided detailed information on the food culture of Tuscany.

Now can you see why I am so wild about Hungry Globetrotter?  It really is everything I ever wanted in a food subscription box.  Not only does it deliver delicious and nutritious items to your door monthly, but it expands your palate by introducing you to new places and cultures you may not have the chance to visit on your own.

I have always said that subscription boxes make great gifts.  And with Mother’s Day around the corner, why not surprise the domestic goddess in your life with an opportunity to both explore and enjoy foods from all over the world.  Plus, with half off a first month’s membership with offer code INHERCHUCKS50HG, how can you resist?

As the primary cook for the family, I love that Hungry Globetrotter has changed the daily question of “What’s for dinner?” into “Where is dinner going to take us today?”

*Full Disclosure: Hungry Globetrotter did provide me with a box free of charge. I was not paid to write this post. With exception of some of the factual information given about the various products, all opinions regarding the products are my own and 100% honest.

Dottiebox LLC

In my next life I want to be a crafter.  I have a great love for it, I just lack the time.  Luckily I satisfy most of my “DIY” cravings by perusing Pinterest and Etsy, gawking at all the unique and amazing homemade creations.  There is so much good stuff out there, it can be hard to know where to start.  Thanks to Dottiebox, I am able to enjoy some of the best in homemade goods delivered straight to my doorstep for only $20/month.  Sounds like an awesome deal, right?

Check out what arrived in my first Dottiebox…

Dottiebox Goodies - In Her Chucks

Dottiebox LLC Hazelnut Latte Lip Balm–  I LOVE lip balm.  I take it wherever I go, and if I forget it, I pick up a pack at Target.  Or I can plan ahead and stock up on this deliciously smelling Hazelnut Latte Lip Balm.  This stuff has definitely taken my addiction for soft lips to a whole new level.  I find myself applying it to my lips even when they aren’t dry because I love the smell so much.  It makes me feel like I just devoured a naughty dessert that left my lips feeling silky and smooth :)  Heaven.

Sharee Boutique’s Quality Cosmetic Hair Chalks–  Did I ever mention that I used to have pink hair?  It was a while ago but I got in pretty big trouble for it (a teenage mistake that I neglected to run by my mom).  Anyways, now you can enjoy the excitement of colorful hair without the commitment (or the punishment).  Sharee Boutique’s Hair Chalks are vibrant and beautiful but are also temporary.  And I love the variety of colors they offer.  I think I’ll go with teal this time.

Make it Stick Mustache Nail Decals–  Mustache’s are all the rage.  And these nail decals take the trend to a whole new level.  But Make it Stick doesn’t stop there.  They have chevron, bow ties, and my favorite, stars.  I love how easy they are to add to your most colorful manicure or to jazz up a nude nail.

1love Candles (‘Butt Naked’ Scent Votive Candle)-  The aroma of a fragranced candle can either make me sick or make me smile.  This candle did the latter.  The fresh scent of this candle takes me away to a special place.  Sweet, clean and light, it’s the perfect candle to warm up your home and set the mood for a relaxing evening.

Jen Ramey Designs Two Tone Wine Charms–  My mom always taught me to never show up to someone’s house for dinner empty handed.  So I am always on the hunt for cute and thoughtful hostess gifts.  And these fit the bill.  Whether you are purchasing them for a friend or for yourself, Jen Ramey Designs has a variety of wine charms to choose from.  I love this idea of his and hers.  In my home, I am the only one who drinks wine (and my wineglasses happen to be stemless) but I can see how these would come in handy for a couple (possibly a pair of newlyweds…)

Baby Off the Hook Coffee Cup Cozy–  Ever since Conscious Box encouraged me to live more consciously in 2013, I have been successful in utilizing my reusable straw and reusable hand towel on a regular basis.  So adding a reusable coffee cup cozy to the list is a perfect way to reinforce my resolution.  Plus, it’s way cuter than those disposable ones anyways.  And for only $6 a pop, I could easily justify picking them up in a few colors (just don’t tell my husband…).

Pretty sweet box of goodies!  Want one for yourself?  Test your luck in Dottiebox’s giveaway.  Not one to gamble?  Then subscribe today for only $20/month and be inspired by a variety of beautiful homemade goods.

NatureBox: Review & GIVEAWAY!

I’m at it again…stuffing my face with more delicious snacks delivered straight to my door (yes, I am talking about enjoying another subscription box).  And this month they are courtesy of NatureBox, a new and growing company whose mission is to make it easier for people to feel good about the way they snack.  But I’m not just talking about their wholesome and minimally processed foods.  For every NatureBox sent each month, a meal is donated to help feed the over 14 million children in America who go hungry every year.  Now that’s what I call, good eats!

Ever since I began my clean eating journey, I have found it hard to enjoy snacks that come from a box or bag.  So many of the foods on the shelves these days are packed with so much artificial junk, that you end up eating a chemistry experiment as opposed to real food.  What makes NatureBox’s snacks different is that they are committed to providing subscribers with foods that are healthy and nutritious.  Their products contain no high fructose corn syrup, no partially hydrogenated oils, no trans fats, no artificial sweeteners and no artificial flavors or colors.  Which means you can feel good about the way you snack.

This month’s theme was all about busting health myths.  So not only did my tummy get full, but my head was also loaded with nutritional information that will help me to make better choices when it comes to food.  Here is a breakdown of the yummy snacks that we have been munching on…

1.  Pistachio Power Clusters:  The perfect balance of salty and sweet, these little bundles of joy take your ordinary nuts to a whole new level.  Packed with pistachios, almonds and cashews this snack is a good source of the healthy fats that help keep you full until your next meal.  Freddie and I both agree, this is our new favorite indulgence.  Crunchy, savory and just enough sweetness to make you think they are naughty?  Sold!

2.  Umami Roasted Nuts:  The problem with your average nut today is that it is loaded with salt.  The solution?  Satisfying levels of flavor without the extra sodium.  Enter Umami Roasted Nuts.  Umami, a Japanese word that translates to “yummy” or “delicious” is best described as a savory flavor that adds depth and richness to foods.  Which means, these nuts will trigger your savory taste buds and not your blood pressure.

3.  Big Island Pineapple:  As much as I loved all things fruity, I could never seem to get on the dried pineapple train.  I have tried it before and found it to be too gritty and hard to chew.  But this bag of dried pineapple changed all of that.  One bite and I was basking in the sun on the Hawaiian Islands.  And the best part?  It has all of the fiber and natural sweetness of the real thing but is easily storable and portable.  Talk about fast food :)

4.  Apple Orchards Granola:  After discovering that I could make my own homemade granola, I have found it hard to find another variety that compares to my recipe.  Well, this granola blows mine…Out. Of. The. Water!  Warm cinnamon, tart apples, crunchy pumpkin seeds , flakey coconut and whole oats coated with agave and soft-baked.  Sounds like the perfect way to welcome autumn :)  All I want to do it layer a handful on top of some Greek yogurt and enjoy this delicious treat “a la mode-y” (must be pronounced like this).

5.  Toasted Sesame Stix:  Did you know that sesame seeds are considered the oldest condiment known to man?  (Don’t feel bad…I just learned that myself!)  I also found out that they are a great source of calcium.  And with the perfect shape to dunk them in hummus, salsa or another one of your favorite dips, they are a nutrient rich snack you can feel good about :)

So now that I have you drooling all over yourself (I’ll give you a moment to wipe the dribble off your chin…), are you ready to find out how you can get your hands on one of these new snacking sensations?

For just $19.95 you can sign up for a monthly membership that will deliver healthy, hand-picked snack foods to your door.  Enter promo code APPLE25 and receive 25% off your first month of subscription service (please note that the 25% discount is only applicable to the month-to-month subscription.  6 month subscriptions receive 1 month free and 12 month subscriptions receive 3 months free).

And why not share the health?  Nature Boxes also make great gifts for your friends and family for holidays, special occasions, or just because.  College students, teachers, coaches, new parents and deployed service members all love to receive healthy snacks any time of the year.

I, for one, love to give gifts to my faithful and loyal readers.  Thanks to the generous folks over at NatureBox, one lucky reader will win a snack box of a future month (Due to shipping restrictions, this giveaway is limited to US residents only).

Fresh as a Daisy

There is no better scent then that of a freshly bathed baby. I can remember when I was little, my mom would pull me out of the bath tub, wrap me up in a warm towel and nestle her nose in the nape of my neck. She would take a big, long whiff followed by a bright smile and whisper “Fresh as a daisy!”. It always made me giggle.

But don’t we all want to be fresh as a daisy? I mean, in some ways it seems that our culture is obsessed with it. Have you ever walked through the fragrance section of a department store? A bit overwhelming (and quite stinky if you ask me…). Which is why I tend to stick with items that are fragrance-free. Whether it be with my body soap, lotion, or facial cleanser, I like it to be plain jane. Except my deodorant…got to use something potent. Or so I thought.

A few weeks ago a company by the name of contacted me to see if I would be interested in doing a review of their all natural deodorant, DeodoMom. For someone who is passionate about going green and keeping things “clean” (chemical free) inside and out, you would think I would be the perfect candidate. The truth is, my journey to find a deodorant that actually works has been rough. I have pretty much tried it all (including the natural brands). So since finally finding one that does the job (I wear Secret…*hangs me head in shame) I am a bit reluctant to change-up my routine. But after reading more about the company and their products, I decided to give it a try.

Here is some of the information that helped to change my mind. In short, most deodorants and antiperspirants on the market today (including ones that consider themselves “natural”) are chock full of yucky chemicals. Chemicals that, when accumulated in excess, can be harmful. So finding an alternative way to keep myself dry and smelling great quickly became a high priority.

When the products arrived, I couldn’t wait to put them to the test. It is the perfect time of year to see how well these products work because of how hot the weather has been. That on top of the fact that I am running after a very active toddler and teaching two music classes a day and I am pretty much a sweaty mess by the time evening rolls around.

In my package I received a Rollon applicator and a jar of cream. I was most intrigued by the cream because I have never seen a deodorant come in that form before. I was also interested to see how applying it with your hands would work. To my surprise it wasn’t as messy and gross as I was anticipating. It had a nice smooth consistency and washed off easily. Both the Rollon and the cream contain the same ingredients, it just comes down to personal preference.

In order to give the product a fair chance, I decided to wear the cream deodorant for one week straight, applying it to my underarms after my morning shower. To my surprise, by the end of the day, I still felt just as fresh and clean as I did when it was first applied. Which means, this stuff must be made of magic.

DeodoMom is made from magnesium hydroxide (a mineral safe enough to eat) and water. It contains no aluminum, no alcohol/glycol, is free of all fragrances, dyes and parabens and is 100% vegan. Created by a husband and wife team with a goal to minimize exposure to aluminum during pregnancy, it is a great product for expectant mothers or any health-conscious person regardless of gender or age. Overall, it is a product that you can feel good about having in your medicine cabinet, knowing that it is both safe and effective.

So, are you ready to feel fresh as a daisy? Click here to order your own supply of DeodoMom today. And don’t forget to check them out on Facebook and Twitter for up to date product info and promotions.

*Full Disclosure: did provide me with a sample of their DeodoMom Rollon and cream deodorant free of charge. I was not paid to write this post. With exception of some of the factual information given about the various products, all opinions regarding the products are my own and 100% honest.

Love with Food: Review and GIVEAWAY!

After 14 days of Clean Eating, it was time for a reward.  And this Love With Food box was the perfect treat!  Filled with healthy and delicious snacks my taste buds were reinvigorated and my cravings were satisfied.  Not only did this food box taste good, but this food box does good too.

Love With Food is my new subscription box obsession.  And while I love all of their gourmet food samples, I love what they stand for even more.  Love With Food takes their passion for tasty treats to a whole new level.  For every box sold, Love with Food donates a meal to several food banks in an attempt to end childhood hunger.  Who knew your snacking habits could make such a difference in the lives of others?

Each month the Love With Food box has a seasonal theme.  This month, it’s all about travel snacks.  Think about your favorite road trip treat, airplane munchie or staycation nibbly.  Nuts, pretzels, cookies, candy…they’re all here, but these gourmet versions are sure to be the best summer snacks you have ever tasted.  Let’s take a closer look at these delicious eats…

1.  Skinny Dipping Pretzels by East Shore:  A pretzel, is a pretzel is a pretzel…right?  Wrong!  Other pretzels are just blah, these skinny beauties are the best pretzel for dipping (hence the name).  And…they are the perfect size for Harper to snack on too.  She had one in each hand and was thrilled to be enjoying a salty and crunchy treat.

2.  Key Lime with Ginger Mustard by East Shore:  I’m going to be 100% honest with you.  I was a bit unsure of this mustard when I read the label.  Not only do I skimp on mustard for sandwiches and burgers, but Key Lime and Ginger?  However, for the sake of the review, I felt that I had to at least try it.  And I am SOOOOO glad I did.  It is AMAZING!!!  A flavor combination that is so unexpected yet completely out of this world.  It’s a good thing I had my own bag of Skinny Dipping Pretzels to go with it because I was in pure snacking heaven :)

3.  Vegan Lemony Lemon Cookie by The Sun Flour Baking Company:  How many packaged cookies have you had in your lifetime that crumble at first bite?  Dry, crunchy and hard, it’s difficult to find a packaged cookie that tickles my fancy.  Especially a vegan one.  Well, let’s just say, this lemon cookie knocked my socks off, making me wonder, why hadn’t I ever indulged myself in a vegan cookie before?  Soft, moist, zesty lemon cookie.  Sounds like the perfect way to brighten up the summer!

4.  Vegan Peanut Butter Cookie by The Sun Flour Baking Company:  After enjoying the Lemon Cookie, I couldn’t open this package quick enough.  Peanut Butter Cookies are one of my favorites and this one didn’t disappoint.  Made with organic crunchy peanut butter, the only thing that would  have made my cookie eating experience any better would be to dip it in a glass of cold milk (but I felt naughty doing that because it was a vegan cookie.  Just didn’t seem right…).

5.  Dried Montmorency Cherries by Cherry Bay Orchards:  It’s no secret that I have a weakness for cherries.  So I’m super excited that I can now enjoy them all year long!  Not all dried fruit is created equal.  And to be honest, until I tried these I wasn’t a fan of dried cherries either.  But when you have plump, sweetly tart, dried cherries from the Cherry Capital of the World, you’ve had the best.  And now I can’t get enough :)

6.  Coconut Toffee Peanuts by Sconza Candies:  On family road trips, my dad would always enjoy toffee peanuts by the handful.  Too bad he never got his hands on these.  But my husband did, and now he’s eating them by the handful :)  With a robe of buttery toffee and tropical coconut, this crunchy snack takes your ordinary bag-o-nuts to a whole new level!

7.  Gin Gins Super Strength Ginger Caremel Candy by The Ginger People:  I am so grateful that I’m not prone to motion sickness.  But with a sister who is, I think I just found the perfect remedy.  They call this candy the “The Traveler’s Candy” as the fresh ginger is a wonderful remedy to help calm motion sickness.  But with its soft texture and warm ginger kick, I’ll pop a few just to enjoy the super delicious flavor :)

8:  Tangerine Glee Gum:  Whether it is to keep your mouth busy as the time passes, or help keep your ears from popping on an airplane, gum is a staple travel treat.  And what I love most about Glee Gum, is now you can enjoy bright, fresh flavored gum with no artificial coloring, flavoring, sweeteners or preservatives.  My new favorite “clean” treat!

Love With Food boxes are a fun way to switch up your snacking routine.  They are also a great gift idea for the person who has everything.  And remember, the best part about staring a subscription with Love With Food, is that you are helping to donate a meal to hungry children across America.  Monthly memberships are available for only $12!  For a limited time, Love With Food is offering $2 off of your first box to ALL of my readers!  Please use the discount code CHUCKVIP at check out.

Healthy Surprise

My addiction continues…I’m hooked on yet another subscription box.  But this box is different.  This box is filled with healthy, delicious snacks that are natural, vegan and gluten-free.  So you can enjoy yourself without feeling guilty.  And trust me…you will indulge!

Healthy Surprise is a service that delivers packages of delicious snacks directly to your door on a monthly basis.  All of the products are natural, vegan and gluten-free.  Similar to other subscription boxes I have tried in the past, each month’s box boasts a different assortment of sweet and savory snacks, allowing customers to be introduced to a variety of new products and brands.

The name for this company is perfect.  Not only do they encourage and support a healthy lifestyle, but truth be told, I was very surprised at how yummy everything was.  As someone with a serious sweet tooth, I had reservations about some of the cookies and bars.  Could something that was good for me actually satisfy my sugar habit (which, by the way, I am trying desperately to kick…)?  The answer is yes…100 times over…YES!

I am so excited to share these amazing goodies with you I can’t help but dive right in.  So here it goes…

Bare Fruit: Granny Smith Apple Chips– I have been a fan of apple chips for quite some time now.  My mom used to pack them in our lunches growing up.  So it was really nice to take a walk down memory lane as Harper and I enjoyed a few handfuls.  Filled with tons of fiber and vitamins, these chips are a great way to satisfy your snack craving while fulfilling your “apple a day” quota.

Bliss Bar: Honey Gold–  I am so in love with the Bliss Bar, I wish I had an entire case full.  Then again…I might end up with a tummy ache if I ate them all at once (because I have officially lost all self-control…).  Not only are these things ridiculously delicious, but they are packed with everything that is good for your body.  Protein rich and filled with potent energy enhancing superfoods, essential enzymes and immune enhancing properties, this tiny little snack is more than a yummy treat.  I can’t wait to get my hands on some more…

Living Intentions: Gone Nuts! Thai Curry Lemon Cashews, Almonds and Coconuts– If I wasn’t a total wimp in the heat department, I would scarf this down by the handful.  But unfortunately, I just can’t hang when it comes to spice.  Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but taste it.  Once I got past the fact that my mouth was literally on fire (only because I am true amateur), I was impressed by the savory curry taste.  For those who enjoy snacks that are full of flavor, this is the perfect choice for you.  I’m looking forward to checking out the Sesame Teriyaki or Raw Cacao Brazil Nuts.  Those variations are more my speed :)

Hail Merry: Vanilla Maple Almonds–  Ever tried a nut that tasted like cookie dough?  Yeah, these babies are THAT good!  And they are good for you too.  Full of oleic acid, these snacks can actually improve cholesterol profile, reduce inflammation and make skins and hair more radiant.  What’s not to love about these things?

Happy Hemp– Hemp seeds are one of the most nutritious and delicious foods on earth.  They are full of protein, fiber and essential amino and heart healthy fatty acids.  Adding a sprinkle of hemp seeds to your ordinary meals can elevate them to super-food status without changing the flavor.  I have had hemp seeds before but wasn’t aware of their amazing benefits.  I can’t wait to make hemp seeds a part of my daily diet.  Starting with this smoothie recipe.

Home Free: Vanilla Mini Cookies– I have officially turned into the gluten-free cookie monster!  These vanilla mini cookies are to die for.  Good thing I received two bags, because Freddie and I were having a hard time sharing with each other :)  Multi-award winning (I can see why…) these cookies are free of the top eight allergens.  Which means they can be enjoyed by all!

Oskri: Coconut Bar Cherry– My dad is the try coconut lover in the family, but to my surprise, this bar wasn’t too bad.  What usually turns me off about coconut is its gritty texture.  But this bar was soft, chewy and smooth.  With a variety of flavors to choose from, there is sure to be one that tickles your fancy.  I am drooling over the Mango and Pineapple.  Talk about a tropical vacay in your mouth!

Skinny Crisps: Cinnamon Crisps– When you offer your guests a bag of Cinnamon Crisps and it comes back empty, that means that they were good right?  Tonight ended up being an impromptu movie night at our house and these were the perfect after meal treat.  Similar to a cinnamon graham cracker without the added junk, these yummy snacks are low in carbs so they have little effect on your blood sugar.  Which means you can satisfy your sweet tooth without your body even knowing it…where were these when I was pregnant?

Two Moms in the Raw: Cranberry Nut Bar– Described as a cinnamon roll without the roll, this bar is a great combination of nuts, fruit and spices.  A perfect pairing of sweet and salty, I also can’t get enough of the contrast of crunchy and chewy.  I have tried my fair share of fruit and nut bars in the past, but this one is by far the best.  Full of flavor and healthy goodness, it’s the perfect treat any time of day.

At first glance, if you would have told me that I was going to love every single item in this box, I wouldn’t have believed you.  As much as I consider myself a healthy person, I have my reservations about going raw, vegan and gluten-free.  I love my carbs, I love my meat, I love my sugar (all in moderation of course…).  And most of all, I don’t want to feel deprived.  Well, this experience has clearly opened up my eyes to a whole new world.  These snacks have proved to me that you can enjoy yummy treats while eating well.  I am truly inspired.

Thank you Healthy Surprise, for educating me on all of the nutritious and delicious snacking options that exist out there.  I couldn’t be more happy with my introduction to your subscription service.  I appreciate your commitment to natural, vegan and gluten-free foods, and your desire to educate others about the wonderful benefits of eating well.

Interested in changing your snacking habits?  Click here for more information on the four different subscription boxes that Healthy Surprise currently offers.
